More than 100 people, including several curious travelers, gathered Thursday, June 2nd, 2015 near a baggage claim area at Dulles International Airport in Virginia for the official grand opening of The Washington Informer’s news and concession store.
The store, which has been in operation since December, is a partnership between The Informer and the Los Angeles-based Crews Enterprises, which operates five other retail spaces at the airport. The family-owned Crews Enterprises operates 57 stores at 19 airports nationwide, including in Los Angeles and Atlanta.
The Dulles store’s opening coincides with the ongoing celebration of The Informer’s 50th anniversary. “This is what diversity is all about,” said Informer Publisher Denise Rolark Barnes. “I want to thank Crews Enterprises for embracing minority-owned businesses like The Informer and helping to expand our presence not only in the District, but across the country and around the world.”
In addition to offering The Informer, a free weekly news publication, the store — operating under the banner “Washington Informer” — sells a variety of other newspapers and magazines, as well as food and drinks.
